POSITION SUMMARY The Construction Project Accountant is responsible for managing the budgets and costs associated with all capital projects under the department’s supervision. Responsibilities will include financial management of project contracts and change orders, application of payments, purchase orders, review and processing of release of liens, general ledger, job cost, monthly reports and financial analyses.
This position will report to the Director, Real Estate Finance and work closely with the Director of Facilities & Property Management on Capital Construction projects and other related projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.Handle and process all aspects of construction payables, including; initial project coding set up and prepare contract award work payments, process approved AIA Documents G 702 and G 703 Applications for Payment including retainage, Change Orders and Release of Lien management as well as maintenance of job cost chart of accounts. 2.Assist in the preparation of cash flow reports and other financial reports for the departments 3.Assist with obtaining vendor credentials as required including W9 forms, COIs and signed draw requests 4.Review and validate vendor statements 5.Process all Capital Project contractor’s payment applications for monthly billings. 6.Perform monthly close and related journal entries 7.Monthly review of job cost activity ensuring consistent and proper coding 8.Assist in the preparation of quarterly project projections and managing the annual capital budget 9.Assist with the other financial duties of the department 10.Adhere to confidentiality rules and all other Trinity Wall Street policies, procedures and rules. 11.Perform all duties in a manner that promote Trinity’s mission and core values. 12.Assume other related responsibilities and special projects as required.
Required Skills and Knowledge: •Strong knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles •Knowledge of basic construction practices and related accounting principles and functions. •Ability to access and accurately input information into accounting system, preferably Yardi •Strong analytical and problem-solving skills •Ability to work independently and complete duties and project with minimal direct supervision •Ability to accurately work under pressure in meeting deadlines •Excellent organizations skills •Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook Required and Preferred Education, Experience, and Credentials: •Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field or related experience •Five years of general accounting experience •Preferred three to five years’ experience in construction accounting •Proficient in financial accounting applications, Yardi preferred •Able to work overtime as business needs require
